Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the endogenous immunopeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro stabilizing sequence. Developed and studied extensively for anxiolytic, nootropic, and immunomodulatory properties, it demonstrates unusually long plasma stability for a short peptide.
Selank modulates the GABAergic system through allosteric potentiation of GABA-A receptors and influences serotonin, dopamine, and enkephalin metabolism. It upregulates BDNF expression, promotes neuroplasticity, and modulates IL-6 and interferon-gamma production in immune cells. The Pro-Gly-Pro extension blocks prolyl endopeptidase cleavage, producing its exceptional metabolic stability.
