Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) based on Epithalamin, a natural polypeptide extracted from the bovine pineal gland. It is one of the most studied peptide bioregulators and is researched for its telomerase-activating properties, anti-aging effects, and regulation of melatonin production.
Epitalon activates telomerase (hTERT), the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length in dividing cells, which has been proposed to slow cellular senescence. It also regulates production of melatonin by the pineal gland, modulates cortisol and gonadotropin cycles, inhibits oncogene expression, and restores age-related declines in antioxidant enzyme activity. The compound influences chromatin structure and gene expression in aging tissues.
